Goodrich “Jack” Gevaart, 80, of Janesville, WI passed away on Friday September 20, 2013. Jack was born on August 18, 1933, the son of Harrison and Winifred (Goodrich) Gevaart. He grew up in Delavan WI and was a 1951 graduate of Delavan High School. Jack was an avid swimmer learning as a youth on Delavan Lake. During high school he was a life guard on Geneva Lake at Williams Bay. He was a graduate of Lawrence University class of 1955. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and joined the ROTC while at Lawrence. He swam competitively at Lawrence. Following graduation from Lawrence he entered the US Air Force as a First Lt. He was stationed in Morocco and Spain as a Communications officer serving his country. When he returned to the US as a Second Lt. he started working for General Motors Janesville in the Personnel office for Fisher Body Division in 1959. On July 2nd 1960 he married his college sweetheart, Carol Clossay. He worked for GM for 30 years in Personnel and Suggestions before retiring in 1989. Jack was a member of the Janesville YMCA for over 50 years. He was a long time member of the Y’s Men’s Club and served a term as president. He supported many social agencies and served on the Janesville Salvation Army Board. He served the City of Janesville as a member of the Liquor License Advisory Board. He volunteered with the Rock County Historical society and was a strong supporter of the Friends of the Janesville Library. He supported youth hockey and joined with other parents to complete construction of the Janesville Ice Arena in the early 1970’s. Jack and his wife Carol were season ticket holders for Badger Hockey for over 30 years. Jack supported College Hockey and held Final Four, now called, Frozen Four Season tickets since 1978.  He was an accomplished photographer who documented so many events he enjoyed with his family.  Jack is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol Gevaart, their children, Mark (Cindy) of Fort Wayne, IN, Glen (Melinda) of Kalamazoo, MI, Gretchen (Alex) Torres of Whitewater, WI his sister Elizabeth Burnside of Kelseyville CA, his grandchildren, Goodrich and Neely, Tyler, Lauren and Jacob, Trayton and Marcela. Visitation will be from 5-7pm Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd. Janesville to be followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
